NJ Research on Substance Abuse Prevention to be featured at National Prevention Conference in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey and Farleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind were selected to present the findings of their six-year longitudinal study on the impact of random drug testing in middle schools at the 26th annual National Prevention Network’s research conference, being held in Oklahoma City, OK this week.

The conference provides a forum to explore the latest prevention research, application and practice to empower and promote positive outcomes in the community, state and federal environments.

Dr. Dan Cassino, of Farleigh Dickinson University and Angelo M. Valente of The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey will report the findings from the six year research study to representatives from across the country in the field of prevention and education.

The longitudinal research project, which was conducted from 2006 to 2012 surveyed a sample of approximately 3,500 students in schools with or without random drug testing.  The purpose of the study was to evaluate the short term and long term effects random drug testing may or may not have had on students’ drug use.

Best known for its statewide anti-drug advertising campaign, the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey is a private not-for-profit coalition of professionals from the communications, corporate and government communities whose collective mission is to reduce demand for illicit drugs in New Jersey through media communication.  To date, more than $70 million in broadcast time and print space has been donated to the Partnership’s New Jersey campaign, making it the largest public service advertising campaign in New Jersey’s history. Since its inception the Partnership has garnered 120 Advertising and Public Relations Awards from National, Regional & Statewide Media Organizations.
