ENGLEWOOD, N.J.– Englewood's Municipal Alliance and city officials are participating in thePartnership for a Drug Free N.J.'s Knock Out Opiate Abuse Day.

The initiative is set for Oct. 6. The purpose, according to the organization, is:

• To educate families of the addictive qualities of opioid pain medications and their link to heroin abuse rates and conduct outreach to physicians with safe prescribing messages found in the CDC.
• Prevention guidelines for prescribing opiates which include considering alternative treatment, setting realistic treatment goals with patients and discussing the pros and cons of opiates with patients.

Two training sessions are being offered. The closest session is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 27 in Room 209 of Fairleigh Dickinson University's School of Pharmacy in Florham Park.

There are opportunities for people to go door to door with door knockers or to go to physicians, dentists etc., Englewood officials said in a release.

The partnership is looking for 2,000 volunteers across the state to raise awareness, the release states.
