Three Morris County musicians have been named finalists in the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey's New Jersey Shout Down Drugs competition.

Cristina Punzo of Denville, a student at Morris Knolls High School, is one of 30 students who were selected as a finalist in the statewide music competition. Punzo’s original song, “Someone Else” was selected as the Morris County finalist from numerous entries from across the state.

Elizabeth Vex and Kaylee Pachana, Rockaway residents woh make up the group Liz and Kaylee and are also students at Morris Knolls High School were selected as wildcard entrees. Liz and Kaylee will perform “The Misery” at the Prevention Concert.

Created in 2005, New Jersey Shout Down Drugs challenges high school students to create original music and lyrics with powerful substance abuse prevention messages to allow teens to deliver the prevention message to each other through their favorite medium of music.

County Finalists are chosen by peer judges to perform their original songs at the Annual Statewide Prevention Concert, held in May, at a state-of-the-art venue. First, second and third place winners are chosen by a panel of judges that night to receive music contracts worth $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively to perform their winning songs at different events throughout the state during the year.

The public can vote for Punzo and Liz and Kaylee’s songs on www.shoutdowndrugs.com. This site features profiles of this year’s finalists and allows the public to cast votes for their favorite songs. These results will be factored into the finalists’ scores on the night of the concert.

These three Morris County teens will perform at the 12th Annual New Jersey Shout Down Drugs music concert presented by the New Jersey Broadcaster’s Association, on May 25, at the Rutgers University Nicholas Music Center in New Brunswick.
