East Brunswick Township Recognizes Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day on October 6

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick Township is taking a strong stand in the fight against the opioid crisis by officially recognizing October 6, 2024, as Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day. A proclamation issued by Mayor Brad Cohen underscores the township's commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse and the critical need for education and prevention efforts.

Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day, a statewide project spearheaded by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ), aims to raise awareness among healthcare providers, community leaders, state lawmakers, and the general public about the opioid epidemic's devastating effects. In East Brunswick and across New Jersey, residents are encouraged to participate by sharing information and resources that could help save lives.

"East Brunswick Township is committed to supporting initiatives that raise awareness about opioid abuse and take meaningful steps to prevent addiction within our community," Cohen said in the proclamation, noting that the opioid crisis affects thousands of families and communities across the state.

The East Brunswick Municipal Alliance strives to promote the health and well-being of individuals in East Brunswick through the reduction of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug misuse.  The EB Municipal Alliance works to achieve this through an ongoing process of community involvement, collaborations, education, public awareness activities, sharing resources, and delivery of quality programs.

Angelo M. Valente, Executive Director of the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey, praised East Brunswick's efforts.

"Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day is a crucial opportunity to educate our communities about the dangers associated with opioid use," he said, "I encourage everyone to participate by spreading a message that could make a difference."
