Piscataway High School Senior Tanvi Narava Teams Up with PDFNJ to Spread Life-Saving Opioid Overdose Intervention Awareness
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway High School senior Tanvi Narava is on a mission to educate her peers and community about the dangers of opioids and the importance of overdose awareness and prevention.
As part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project, Tanvi recorded a mini-webinar titled “Renew You, Embrace You” for the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey's Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day initiative. This annual, statewide event raises awareness about the risks of opioid misuse and equips residents with critical resources available in their communities.
In her webinar, Tanvi shares tips on recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and teaches young people how to use Narcan, a lifesaving drug.
"Possessing Narcan and knowing how to properly use it can save a life, and I want to make everyone life savers,” Tanvi said.
"Tanvi's dedication to addressing the opioid crisis is commendable and inspiring," said Angelo Valente, Executive Director of PDFNJ. "Her project not only provides education but also removes the stigma surrounding opioid misuse and overdose intervention. Her work has the potential to save lives, and we are proud to have her as part of our Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day program."
Through her Gold Award work, Tanvi has presented overdose intervention information to over 100 students in Middlesex County and beyond. She has also organized community awareness events, including a flag ceremony that honored those affected by opioid use in Piscataway.
